Biography of Dr. Richard Cash

Innovative Educator, Author, and Advocate for Gifted Learners

Early Life and Education

Dr. Richard Cash began his journey in education with a Bachelor of Arts degree in theater from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. After a brief stint in the retail sector, he pursued his passion for teaching by attending the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis, where he earned a post-baccalaureate degree in elementary education. This foundational education paved the way for his dynamic approach in the classroom, combining his theatrical talents with instructional excellence.

Teaching Career and Creative Approach

Dr. Cash’s first teaching position was in a magnet school for gifted children in St. Paul, Minnesota, serving students from grades 1 through 8. In this role, he leveraged his background in acting and directing to craft learning spaces infused with artistry, music, theater, and dance. His innovative use of creative arts within education helped cultivate a vibrant and engaging environment for young learners.

Advanced Studies and Curriculum Leadership

Pursuing further academic achievement, Richard earned a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. He transitioned into the role of curriculum specialist, where he developed training modules, curriculum formats, and differentiated learning archetypes. These resources empowered teachers to deliver higher-level, enriched experiences tailored to the diverse needs of all students. Later, Richard returned to St. Thomas to complete a doctoral degree in educational leadership, further deepening his expertise in school improvement and instructional innovation.

Leadership in Gifted Education

Dr. Cash went on to serve as the Administrator of Gifted Programs in Rochester, Minnesota, and later as the Director of Gifted Programs for Bloomington Public Schools. His tenure in Bloomington was marked by significant accomplishments: he realigned gifted programs to reach more students despite budget constraints and successfully integrated differentiated instruction throughout the curriculum. Among his hallmark achievements was the creation of a school-within-a-school program for highly and profoundly gifted students, spanning grades 2 to 10.

A sought-after expert in his field, Dr. Cash has delivered hundreds of workshops, presentations, and staff-development sessions across the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. His research-based strategies and practical techniques have been widely recognized for increasing student achievement.
